Linnie Ann Greenwood

Linnie Ann Runnels Greenwood, 97, of Port Neches, TX died November 21, 2010. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Port Neches, Rev. Bryan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Services will be under the ion of Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Central Baptist Church before the services.quotMiss Linniequot as she was affectionately known, was born in Star, Mississippi January 13, 1913. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Newton Greenwood. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.Mrs. Linnie was a registered nurse, taking her training at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, where she began her hospital work and private duty nursing. After their marriage, she and Mr. Greenwood moved to Beaumont, where she nursed at St. Theresa Hospital in Beaumont. The Lumus Construction Company was building all the defense plants in Port Neches and she was their company nurse until Mr. Greenwood joined the Navy. She then worked at Oceanside Hospital in Oceanside, California. After the war and much private duty nursing, Mrs. Linnie ended her career with 30 years of service at Gaspards Nursing Home in Port Acres, as or of nurses. In May 1999 she retired and laid aside her cap, with a retirement celebration at Central Baptist Church, where she had the distinction of being the oldest member. Her regular attendance and participation was an inspiration to all who knew her. Although, Mrs. Linnie had no children, many a child was blessed by her ministry through the van ministry of the Central Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Central Baptist Church senior adult choir, and a member of the ladies exercise class at the First Baptist Church of Port Neches.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church, 903 Avenue B, Port Neches, Texas 77651.
