Lloyd Anthony Luke, Sr. beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather passed away at his home on January 23, 2011 surrounded by his family and friends. Lloyd was born on September 12, 1932 in Centerville, LA. He grew up working on the family sugarcane farm and later joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. In the early fifties he moved to Port Neches, Texas and worked for G.C. Fells Glass Co. In 1958 he met the love of his life, Wanda Faye Matte. They married on July 28, 1959 and began their family when their first son, Lloyd Anthony Jr. (Tony) was born in 1960, followed by the birth of their second son, Mark Wayne, in 1962. Lloyd began working for Dupont Works in Beaumont in 1969, where he was known as "Cool Hand Luke". He worked for 20 years and took an early retirement in 1989 to become a cowboy. He loved to ride his horses and raised cattle in Winnie, Texas. During his retirement years he also enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos, hunting, cooking, playing golf, skiing, and spending time with his four grandchildren. His passion for cooking was enjoyed by his family and friends alike. You could always find Lloyd trying out new recipes to the delight of his guests. Lloyd was very proud of his four grandchildren. He enjoyed attending many dance recitals, baseball games, graduations, and a wedding of his eldest granddaughter. He is lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren, Danielle Luke Kiser of Midland, Texas, Brandon Luke of Spring, Texas, Evan Luke of Port Arthur, and Taylor Luke of Midland, Texas. Lloyd was so generous of his time and carpenter skills and was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. No job was ever too big of a task for Lloyd. He built many decks, remodeled and repaired homes after storms, and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church where he was married 51 years ago. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Monsignor Bennie Patillo officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 with a Vigil service to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Luke and Edonia Deroach, his brothers, Norman Luke, John Luke, and Gilbert Luke. He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; son, Tony and wife, Donna of Midland, Texas, and son Mark of Port Arthur, TX. He had four grandchildren he adored, Danielle Luke Kiser of Midland, TX, Brandon Luke of Spring, TX, Evan Luke of Port Arthur, TX, and Taylor Luke of Midland, TX. He is also survived by three brothers; Isaac Luke and Ferrell Luke of Centerville, LA , Ralph Luke of Lake Worth, FL, and two sisters; Margaret Smith of Port Neches, TX and Lee Burns of Broaddus, TX. There are also numerous friends and family who will greatly miss Lloyd's wonderful sense of humor and his companionship.
