Louis F. Loupe

February 23, 1923 — February 5, 2011

Louis Fortune Loupe, Jr., left an indelible impression on everyone he met. He passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011, at his home in Nederland. He would have been 88 years old in two weeks. He was born February 23, 1923, in Bridge City to Edna and Louis Loupe. He was the fifth of six children, which included Scuddy Paul, Fred, Roy, Amelia, and Edna. Upon returning from service in World War II as a radio operator, he married Myrtis Jeanne Guidry of Kaplan, Louisiana. They had two children: Kenneth Wayne Loupe and Karen Loupe Gernand. He was known as Pawpaw Loupe to five grandchildren: Ginger Downs, Candace Bertrand, Aimee Fesmire, Jessica Patel, and Mark Gillenwaters. His legacy includes fourteen great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Randy Bertrand, Brad Downs, Stan Fesmire, Mark Gillenwaters, Dr. Zubin Patel, and Mike Seaux. Retired from Texaco after 36 years of employment, Louis spent his time visiting friends and relatives, gardening, attending plays, watching sports (especially his great-grandchildren's games), working crossword puzzles, and honing his skills as an arm-chair "Jeopardy!" contestant. Recently, when asked if he "tweeted" or had a Face Book account, Louis was heard to say, "It's not my world." And the world is a lesser place without him. He was the uncommon "common man" of the best generation that devoted themselves to their families , fought for their country, and persevered through the Great Depression, a world war, a cold war, a cultural revolution, and a technological explosion. All the while, he maintained his sharp wit, his friendly demeanor, and his endearing sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Gernand; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Seaux; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend David Placette officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Deacon Dallas Broussard at the funeral home.
