Lucien Phillip “Sonny” Hebert of Wiergate, Texas, departed this worldly life for his heavenly one September 5, 2018 at the age of 96. He was born October 21, 1921 in Crowley, Louisiana and moved to Port Arthur, Texas at the age of six months. He has lived in Port
Arthur, Nederland, Bridge City, and Wiergate, Texas. Lucien served with honor in World War II in both the Army and the Air Force and saw duty in France, Germany, and Belgium. After his tour of duty was over, he was hired by Gulf States Utilities, which later became Entergy of Texas. Sonny successfully completed thirty-eight and one-half years with GSU-Entergy. He was a member of Well of Hope Church in Bridge City, Texas but has more recently worshipped at Burkeville Baptist Church in Burkeville, Texas.
Sonny was a man among men. He was honest and forthright in his dealings with others and they loved him for it. He believed with all his heart if you didn’t want an enemy, make a friend of him. He lived up to his own advice. This was the passing of another good and honorable man.
Sonny leaves to morn his passing his dear wife of forth-seven years, Ruth Hopson Hebert; his two sons, Craig Hebert of Sour Lake, Texas and Michael Haley and his wife, Linda of Wiergate, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Dennis Haley; grandson, Paul Dennis Haley, Jr.; five sisters, Julia, Ida, Nina, May and Norma; 6 brothers, Leo, Sidney, Algole, Willie, Venus, and Gilbert; and daughter-in-law, Rene’ Hebert.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Well of Hope Church in Bridge City, Texas with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
