Margaret Elmeda Scott Haynes, 92, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 15, 2013.
She was born in Polk County, Texas, March 19, 1921 to the Rev. Samuel Scott and Mattie Adieline Thomas. She was married in Camden, Texas on October 24, 1942, to Benjamin Franklin Haynes of Hortense, Texas, until his passing on October 28, 1991.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her 4 brothers, and her 2 sisters, and many cherished friends.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Scott Haynes and wife, Kathy of Lake Jackson,TX, and Ben Richard Haynes and wife, Debbie of Weimar, TX; her daughter, Cyd Valinda Grimes of Dripping Springs, TX; along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Like those of her generation, she grew up during the Great Depression, endured World War II, and made a happy and productive life for more than 50 years in Nederland, TX.
A lifelong member of the Baptist church, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Nederland, where she was very active in many activities and groups helping others and being a great Christian.
She was an active member of the Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Association, a member of the Eastern Star, rising to the order of the Eastern Star, was a representative for Avon, was a participated in the Silvertones Choir with the First Baptist Church, and was always someone to volunteer and help anyone needing assistance.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the funeral home, Rev. Dr. Jason Burden officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
