Margarette Davis Wood of Nederland, Texas, 95 years old, left this world on April 2, 2015 at Harbor Hospice Hospital to live in heaven. She was born March 28, 1920 in a settlement community named Mt. Carmel in Tyler County, TX.
Her job was of the highest calling in life, that of a Homemaker, Margarette was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, also known as “Mamaw.” She was talented with her sewing, cooking, and loved to sing gospel music and singing in the Silvertone Choir at church. Margarette is a long time member of First Baptist Church of Nederland and a life member of Order of the Eastern Star of Nederland. She was also Mother of the Year in 1995.
Margarette has two surviving children, a daughter, B. Lynette Osborne, and a son and daughter-in-law, James Ray Wood and wife, Ruth Wood; grandchildren, Dwain Osborne and wife, Carla of Manor, TX, Michelle Spencer and husband, Steve of Richmond, TX, Dean Wood and wife, Kathy, Lance Wood, and Tresa Fenn and husband, Mickey all of Nederland; great-grandchildren, Jordan Wood, Logan Wood, Brock Fenn of Nederland, and Nicholas Spencer and wife, Melissa of Houston, Christopher Spencer of Austin, and April Osborne of Austin; and one sister, Vesta Bell Worthy of Woodville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bevis O. Wood; a daughter, Brenda Wood; and her parents, Lewis and Zona Davis, of Colmesneil, Texas; four brothers, Jay Davis, Calarence Davis, Woodrow Davis, and Escar Wayne Davis; five sisters, Faye Primrose, Willie May May, Beatrice Williams, Mary Lou Smith, and Iva Wallace; and a loving son-in-law, Gerald Osborne.
Funeral Services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX on April 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Jason Burden officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of the family and friends will be held from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
