Maria "Mati" Cardenas

Maria “Mati” Cardenas, 79, of Beaumont, Texas passed away October 9, 2021. She was born on March 8, 1942 to the late Ventura Reyes and Socorro Alviar Reyes.
Mati retired after working for Vidor I.S.D. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mati loved dancing, watching Western movies, and any type of sports especially the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved Elvis and she was well known for her homemade flour tortillas. She loved to eat breakfast with her sisters and brothers and talk, well maybe gossip. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Mati’s memory are her children, Ruby Cardenas, Reymundo Cardenas III, Mario Cardenas and his wife Estela, René Cardenas and his wife Alecia, and Adela Cardenas; her nephew Richard Varela and his wife Anna; her grandchildren, Angelica Guerrero, Adriana Cardenas, Evonna Yarbrough, Veronica Blair, Jessica Oliver, Patrick Ozment, Robert Ozment, Estrella Cardenas, Reymon Varela, and Analicia Cardenas; her 14 great grandchildren; her siblings, Joe Reyes and his wife Gloria, Raymond Reyes and his wife Linda, Polly Varela, Ortencia Cowles, Esperanza Enriquez and her husband Hector, Rosie Solis and her husband Roberto, Pilar Newman and her husband Bill, Cresencio Reyes Sr. and his wife Diane, Jessie Reyes, Johnny Reyes(Judy); and her loving friend, Jesus “Chuy” Castillo. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Elena Cardenas; her son Gabriel Cardenas; Reymundo “Lemon” Cardenas II; her brothers Rufus Reyes and Robert Reyes; and her sister Connie Clark.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Joey Ramon officiant. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland.
