Maria Aurora quotDoraquot Orta, 80, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on October 19, 2010 at her home with her loving family at her side. A lifelong resident of Port Arthur, Maria was born in Lockhart, Texas on November 26, 1929 to Josephine and Francisco Ramirez. She was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America for 16 years and owner of Maria39s Garage Sale for many years. She was an extremely active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she served in the Senior Club, Spanish Prayer Group, and helped with carnivals and festival year round, when they held garage sales and food booths.A gathering of family and friends will be on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Father T. R. Blanco celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. The family will gather after the burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Hall for fellowship and a meal.She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Francisco Ramirez brother, Felix Ramirez daughter Virginia Herrera and her loving husband, David C. Orta. She is survived by her children, 2 daughters, Velma Jo Wappler and husband Dennis of Groves, and Vickie Lynn McDaniel of Nederland5 sons David James Orta and wife Ruby of Nederland, Rudy Joseph Orta and wife Maria of Nederland, Johnny Ray Orta and wife Dedie of Port Arthur, Paul Orta of Port Arthur, and David Ramirez Orta of Port Arthur 23 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren along with 2 sisters Minnie Ramirez Rodriguez of Dallas and Elvira Lege of Groves brother Jesse Ramirez of Houston as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Special thanks for her care givers Gabriela Hernandez and Gloria Hughes. She was a serious person and hardworking all the time, whether it was with her garage sales, etc. or the church functions, she was always busy.
