Marjorie H. Pierce, 92, of Port Neches, TX, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2015 in Colorado Springs, CO. Margie was born July 10, 1922, in Port Acres, TX, the oldest of three children to Henry and Elizabeth Westerman. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School and Port Arthur College. Margie was employed as a secretary at Consolidated Steel Corporation shipbuilding in Orange, TX, during WWII. On December 20, 1942, she christened LCI(L)-87 just as it slipped from the ways. She was so proud of her ship, because LCI-87 came home from three invasions in the European war theater. On June 1, 1946, Margie married Arlo (Tony) Pierce and they lived in Port Neches raising their three daughters. Margie and Tony celebrated 47 anniversaries until his passing in 1994. Margie was a piano teacher for 38 years. She was also a very talented seamstress who could make everything from her husband's sport coats to her daughter's prom gowns. If you were looking for Margie, you would most likely find her at her Berdina sewing machine. Margie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Port Neches, the UMW, and the church quilting group. She was famous for her homemade apple cakes that were always in demand at the church bazaar. One of her many joys was being in the quilters group where her women friends came together to create something beautiful. Margie was a loving, caring wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and best friend. She was a beautiful, sweet soul with a strong independent spirit. She was abundantly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Margie is survived by her three daughters Paula J. Pierce of El Sobrante, CA; Pennie L. Pierce Long and her husband Andrew Long, of Fredericksburg, VA;. and Bonnie K. Wood of Llano, TX; grandson Capt. Eddie Pierce of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Annie Wood of Winters, TX; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth June Pierce of Colorado Springs, CO.
