Martha R. Gilbert

1938 ∼ 2025

Martha R. Gilbert, born on March 24, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 87, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family.

With a career spanning over 30 years, Martha served as a bookkeeper for F. B. Taylor Insurance Agency, where her meticulous nature shone brightly. Her devotion to her work was paralleled only by her commitment to her family. Martha cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, and her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Martha was deeply rooted in her community and faith, with the church playing a vital role in her life.  She was a member of the Church of Christ.  Her love for singing brought joy not only to her but also to those fortunate enough to hear her voice. In her leisure time, she delighted in word games and the strategic challenges of solitaire, activities that reflected her sharp intellect and playful spirit.

Martha is survived by her son, David Gilbert and his wife, Becky of Mandeville, Louisiana; her daughter, Becky Hanratty and her husband, Doug of Groves, Texas; and her cherished grandchildren, Michael Gilbert, Daniel Gilbert, Lauren Hanratty, and Hunter Hanratty and his wife, Brianna. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Holton of Caddo Mills, Texas, and her brothers, John Fix and his wife, Christy of Nashville, Tennessee, and Joe Fix and his wife, Lelia of Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Fix of Dunbar, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Catherine Fix, and her brother, Bill Fix, and a half-sister Joyce Douglas.

Her presence will be deeply missed but her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. The family invites those who wish to pay their respects to join them for visitation on July 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, both taking place at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th St, Groves, Texas, 77619.

I offer my deepest condolences to all of the family and friends. Mrs. Gilbert did so much to help me when I preached in South Africa. She continued that help to other missionaries even when I left. She was a generous and kind woman. I know you'll miss her.
