Martha Maria Winfrey, a beloved mother, grandmother, and retired teacher, peacefully passed away in Port Arthur, Texas on April 12, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on June 5, 1945, in Port Arthur, she dedicated her life to education as a teacher with the Port Arthur Independent School District, imparting knowledge and wisdom to generations of students.
Martha's love for her family was unmatched, as she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her sons: Jerry Winfrey and his wife, Galina; Thomas Winfrey and his wife, Elena; John Winfrey; and Jason Winfrey and his wife, Alicia. Martha's pride extended to her stepdaughter, Wanda Jean Hayes, and she took great joy in her role as a grandmother to Inesa Svalaityte, Jerry Winfrey, Jacy Winfrey, Jaxin Winfrey, Dylan Winfrey, Karina Winfrey, Kourtney Winfrey, Otto Winfrey, and Maddox Nguyen. She was also a delighted great-grandmother to Heidi Manchac.
Martha was not only a woman of family devotion but also a vibrant member of her community. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed the fellowship and companionship with friends who shared her vibrant spirit. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, she found joy in singing in the choir, her melodic voice bringing solace and happiness to many.
Her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her, from her close-knit family to her expansive circle of friends. Martha is rejoiced in memory by her sisters: Bonnie Eiserer, Rose Mary Bennett, and Cecile Kritikakis. She now joins her beloved husband, Jerry D. Winfrey, and her late family, including her parents, Cecil and Johnnie Mae Holliman, her sister Lorretta Brown, and her daughter-in-law, Danielle Winfrey.
Friends and family are invited to honor Martha's memory during visitation on April 26, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Both events will take place at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Texas 77627. A graveside service will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Martha Maria Winfrey leaves behind a rich tapestry of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and community, embodying the essence of a life well-lived.
