Martin Joseph Sonnier, Sr., 71, of Baytown, Texas passed away January 21st, 2021 at his home while surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Crowley, Louisiana on October 5th, 1949 to the late Wilma Vincent Sonnier and Willa Mae LaGrange Sonnier.
Martin was a resident of Port Arthur for 44 years before moving to Baytown. He is a Past Grand Knight of Groves Knights of Columbus Council 3491 and was also a member of the Groves Masonic Lodge Number 1315. Martin began working at Gulf Oil Company, which became Chevron, in Port Arthur in February of 1970. In 1993 he transferred to the Chevron Cedar Bayou Chemical plant in Baytown, where he retired in February of 2015 as a Maintenance Superintendent with 45 years of service.
As Martin travels to Heaven, he leaves behind a loving wife, Eula Wilkinson Sonnier of Baytown; daughter Kimberly "Kim" Sonnier Tucker of Baytown; son Martin "Marty" Sonnier, Jr. and wife Joni Sonnier of Baytown; grandchildren Brandon Sonnier, Patrick Sonnier, Matt Tucker, Nick Sonnier, Thomas Tucker, and Trey Sonnier; brother-in-law Rochelle Simmons; He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Glynn Sonnier and his wife Donna Sonnier, and sister Lynn Simmons.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas on Sunday, January 24th at 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Deacon Steven Obernuefemann of Immaculate Conception speaking as celebrant. A private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves will be conducted at a later date.
Due to current health guidelines, we request that all guests practice social distancing while attending Martin's visitation and service. All in attendance will be required to wear a face mask upon entering Levingston's Funeral Home.
