Mary Ann Stansbury (McWhorter), 80, of Port Arthur died early Thursday morning September 16, 2010, in Silverado Senior Living, Plano, Tx. Mary Ann was the daughter of Benjamin Tarver and Annie Ruth McWhorter and a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Mary Ann earned a degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She was active in the Service League of Port Arthur, serving as its president in 1965-6, as well as in the Presbyterian Church, where she was active in a range of activities, from singing in the choir to serving in the Presbyterian Women's group. She also cherished her frequent retreats at Mo-Ranch. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the United Methodist Temple followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park . She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stansbury. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Ann Deen, and her husband, Jim Deen of Plano, Tx.; her son, Mark, and his wife, Gabi Behrens, of Galway, Ireland. In the later part of her life her care-givers grew to be part of our family; Sabina Perez, Esmy Rocha, and Sandra Olaye.
