Mary Elizabeth Lee Chesser

Mary Elizabeth Lee Chesser, of Port Neches, Texas died on June 27, 2019 at her home. She was born on July 15, 1922 in Florence, Alabama to parents, John D. Lee, Sr. and Noma V. Cooper Lee. Mary graduated from Central High School in Florence, Alabama in 1940 and attended Florence State College. On June 6, 1941, she married Kirk E. Chesser, Jr., the love of her life to whom she was married for 53 years until his death. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a wonderful southern cook, had great compassion and quick wit, strong faith, a loving nature, and was actively involved in numerous activities with her family. She took great pleasure in her painting and enjoyed many years of painting with friends and was active in the Art Leagues. She was a long time active member of the United Methodist Temple and a member of the Cullen-Hamilton and of the Wesley Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk E. Chesser, Jr.; her parents; her brothers, J.D. Lee, Jr., and W.C. Lee; and sister, Kathleen Lee Bates. She is survived by daughter, Sheila Kiefer of Port Neches, Texas and grandson Dr. Todd Kiefer and wife Blakely of Durham, North Carolina, daughter, Deborah and grandson, Kirk and wife Suzanne, and grandson, Chad; granddaughter, Bethany and great grandchildren, Lauren and Kyle. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, June 29, 2019 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Phil Chamberlin of the United Methodist Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
