Mary Lou Ivey

June 12, 1931 — March 2, 2020

Mary Lou Ivey, of Port Neches, Texas, went on to be with her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2020 at the age of 88 years old. She was born in Port Neches, Texas on June 12, 1931 to Aline Bonvillion Bertolio and Dominic John Bertolio. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister Shirlie Faul and her brother Robert Bertolio. Mary is survived by her husband Thomas Hilton Ivey, Sr., her daughter Belinda McCain and husband Larry McCain, daughter Sherry Villarreal and husband J. Mike Villarreal, son Thomas Hilton Ivey, Jr. (Tom Jr.) and wife Laury Ivey, grandchildren Rachel McCain (Belinda), Lauren Ivey (Tom Jr.) Thomas “Tommy” Hilton Ivey, III (Tom Jr.); great grandchildren Hayden Snider and Ava McCain-Smith (Rachel); sisters Jeanette Winkle, Alice Wilson and Linda Tibbitts.
Mary and Thomas Hilton (Tom) lived in between Port Neches and Nederland throughout their marriage. They just celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 28, 2020. Mary graduated from Port Neches Groves High School. She worked numerous jobs in the cafeteria services and was a wonderful mother to her children. Mary and Tom were long time members of First Assembly of God in Port Neches where Tom was a teacher, deacon, associate pastor and senior pastor on several occasions between other pastors. Mary spent many hours fishing with her husband on Village Creek running trotlines and dropping a line in any waterway in the State of Texas. Mary attended many ballgames of her children and grandchildren and spent numerous hours tossing baseballs, softballs, footballs and any other sport you can imagine. Mary was blessed to have been so active up into her 80’s and loved life which was obvious from her smile and ability to not meet a stranger. We were blessed to have shared so many holidays, family birthdays and special times with this great woman who was a daughter, sister, mom and wife to our family. We cannot wait to see her in Heaven as it states in Revelations 21 “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain”, Mary will have a new body and will be running around and spreading joy throughout the streets of gold.
We would like to thank Tom Ivey (husband) for his tireless effort in taking care of our Mom during this difficult time the past 12 months. We also would like to thank Ann, Latera, Amy, Robert and all the wonderful folks at Compassion Hospice as well as Consuela Harrison and others in taking great care of Mary this past year.
Heaven is a much sweeter place with the addition of Mom today!
