Mary Galvan Ortiz, 95, of Groves, Texas, peacefully passed away on March 9, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 8, 1929, in Port Arthur, Texas, Mary lived a life characterized by kindness, devotion, and an enduring love for her family.
Throughout her career, Mary held various positions that showcased her talents and zest for life. In her youth, she worked at an ice cream shop, bringing joy to countless customers with her warm smile. She later contributed her skills at Texaco and served as a seamstress for Gingiss Formal Wear, where her attention to detail and craftsmanship were admired by many.
Mary was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, exemplifying her faith in her daily life. A devout Catholic, she prayed her rosary faithfully, finding solace and strength in her spiritual practices. Her beautiful smile and kind demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and she cherished her family dearly, nurturing relationships with her loved ones throughout her life.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Paula Ortiz of Groves, Texas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will fondly remember her gentle spirit and caring nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Felize Galvan; her husband, Paul Ortiz; and her siblings, Juanita Aranda, Manuel Galvan, Edward Galvan, Ernestine Subia, Antonio Galvan, Jose Galvan, and Secorro Guerrero. Each of these individuals holds a special place in Mary’s heart and collective family history, and their memories will live on through those who continue her legacy.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland located at 1605 Avenue H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
Serving as pallbearers include Jason Ortiz, John Ortiz, Robert Arciva, Albie Navarro, JR McKinny, Christopher Cupples, and Kana Vara.
Mary Galvan Ortiz leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will be deeply missed but will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of her family and friends.
