Mary Margaret Abshire Petisca

1943 ∼ 2024

Mary Margaret Abshire Petisca, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on August 12, 2024, in Houston, Texas. She was born on April 1, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas. Mary was known for her loving and caring nature, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

Described as a passionate and wonderful person, Mary's personality shone brightly in every aspect of her life. Her love for her family was evident to all, she was the best friend to her husband and children with whom she spoke often, shared secrets, and good times. She touched the hearts of everyone she met. Mary's gentle and selfless nature, combined with a heart of gold, made her a beacon of light for those around her. She had a unique ability to love without reservation and was always willing to go above and beyond for others.

In her free time, Mary indulged in various hobbies and interests that brought her happiness. She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, painting, and creating beautiful clothes. Cooking and baking were among her passions, and she took great pleasure in preparing meals for all occasions. Additionally, Mary actively participated as a homeroom mother, showing her dedication to nurturing and caring for children beyond her own family.  She was an active member of the Class Reunion planning committee for the Thomas Jefferson Class of 1961.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-two years, Bob Petisca of Port Arthur. She is also survived by her loving sons, Randy John Petisca and his wife Diana of Houston, and Robert Lee Petisca, Jr. and his wife Leah of Nederland. Mary's grandchildren, Amberly Kay Jagneaux and her husband Jeff, and Halee Nichole Peltier and her husband Logan, will forever cherish the memories of their dear grandmother. Her great-grandchildren, Aspen Petisca, Greyson, Jensen, and Declan Peltier, and bonus great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Talon Jagneaux, brought her immense joy and pride. She also leaves behind her niece, Christy Smith and her husband Wesley, and a great niece, Lexi Adams and husband Ryne along with a host of other great nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Sylevia Abshire; and her sister, Floy Ann Williams Chipman. Though she is no longer with us, Mary's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

How sad to hear of Mary’s death. She was a dedicated member of our class of 61 planning committee and we all will miss her dearly. Having known her since junior high high school at Woodrow Wilson, I will miss her smiling face. Through all her adversities, she always had a beautiful spirit. Bob and all of Mary‘s family, my deepest sympathies. Linda Parent Robinson, class of Thomas Jefferson 1961

Oh this breaks my heart. Ms. Mary was the very first friend I made almost a decade ago when I started working for Alorica. She had such a sweet energy that I sat right down next to her in the break room, and immediately got to know her. We stayed friends over the years since, and I would always randomly run into her in several places. We would catch up, and she would ask me about my kids. This lady was absolutely one of a kind. She was an earth angel.. I know she couldn't stay here forever, but I absolutely am grateful that heaven loaned her to us here on earth for the time we got, before calling her home. To say that I am sad is an understatement.. but the sadness is for me and the people who knew her. I'm very happy for her in my own way because I know that she is in heaven flourishing. This parting is just for now. It is not for ever. To her family, I'm sorry for your loss. I loved her very, very much.

Mrs. Petisca was a wonderful woman. Her younger son, Robert, was a classmate of mine, and I always thought highly of the Petisca family. While I was saddened to hear of her passing, I am honored to have known her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. RIP, Mrs. Petisca. Godspeed!
