Mary Rose "Edith" Williams

Mary Rose Caroline “Edith” Geer Williams, 94, of Nederland, Texas passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020, at home with family by her side.

Edith was born on September 25, 1926 in Chickasaw, Alabama to the late Vasco Rudolph, Sr and Etta Mae Geer. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tillman Alva Williams; siblings, Vasco Rudolph Geer, Jr, Henry Alexander Geer, Sr, and Dolly Mae Perry Babb; and nephew, Dr. George Austin-Martin. Edith moved to Texas as a child and has been a resident of Nederland since 1958.

Edith became a Catholic at the age of 17 and was devout in her faith. Edith was an active member at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where she taught CCD classes to special education students. She was also active in the Altar Society and served as president for several years.

Edith graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1944 and later attended Lamar University.

Edith taught Kindergarten at St. Charles Grammar School for several years before opening The Little Red School House. She later went on to open Bo-Peep Remedial Center for children with learning differences.

Edith was honored for her 40 years of service in the Diocesan Council for Catholic Women. She was chairwoman for the March of Dimes for several years and was also a volunteer at the Hospitality Center in Port Arthur. Edith was a fantastic mother and was named Mother of the Year in Nederland in 1974.

Those left behind to cherish her memories are her children, James Henry Williams and his wife, Darlene of Beaumont, TX; Linda Abbott and her husband, Kirk of Port Arthur, TX; Gerilyn Anne Williams of Nederland, TX; Karla Strickland and her husband, Gary of Port Neches, TX; Terry Brown of Nederland, TX; Timothy Williams and his wife, Pamela of Nederland, TX; Kathy Stelly and her husband, Dale of Clear Lake, TX; and Janice Williams of Nederland, TX; grandchildren, Kirk David Abbott, Misty Abbott, Jaime Kruttlin, Scott Williams, Amber Williams, Ryan Strickland, Eric Strickland, Eddie Oliver, Christopher Madding, Olivia Brown and Donna Williams; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 15, 2020 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland, TX. Rev. John H. Hughes will officiate the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches. Due to Coronavirus-19 the family wishes to have a private service.
