Matthew "Pat" Starr Allen, Jr. Matthew "Pat" Starr Allen, Jr. of Groves passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. He was born on September 27, 1923 in Forest, Mississippi to Matthew Star Allen, Sr. and Gladys McVey Allen. Pat had lived in Groves for 60 years and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Groves. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #382 in McComb, MS. and active in the Groves Masonic Lodge #1315. He was a Scout Master for 13 years and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. Pat was very active in many areas of the church and a member of the VFW Post #4820. Pat was a United States Army veteran. Serving during WWII and participating in the D Day Invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. He was employed as a process operator with Ameripol Synpol before retiring in 1986. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Beverly Tune and Reverend George Hearne officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pat is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Allen of Groves, two daughters, Becky Kelly and husband, Roger of Lufkin, and Patsy Edmonds of Groves, sister, Joy Jensen and husband, Arnie of Arkansas, brother, James Allen and wife, Marie of Mississippi, three grandchildren, Matthew Edmonds and wife, Lori, Ryan Kelly and wife, Kellie, Meredith Brawner and husband, Jonathan, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, sister, and son-in-law, Bill Edmonds. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Pat's death. I have so many fond memories of him teaching Sunday School during Campmeeting at Felder's. For the past several years, I have enjoyed visiting him on the cabin porch. I will truly miss him. Such a wonderful man of God.
