We have lost a truly fine man and a great friend to so many. I consider myself blessed to have worked with Matt as a colleague in the museum community. As a friend there is no one who loved to give (and receive) hugs more than my friend Matt. We had some great laughs together. I will carry his memory in my heart always. My deepest sympathy to his family. Please know how much he was loved by his museum family.

God blessed Matt with a wonderful family; and he knew it. Mr. and Mrs. White, Matt always spoke of you with great warmth, respect, and love. You raised him well. It really was an honor to be his colleague and, especially, his friend. I'm going to miss him. And I will always remember your incredible dedication to him and his care during his long illness.

I was so sad to hear of Matt's passing. He was always someone I could call if I had a question or wanted to get an opinion on some project I was working on. Normally it had to do with historical tourism. I would hear him "snicker" and know to get ready for an answer that would make me laugh....then came the real answer. I am already missing him.

I worked with Matt at the McFaddin-Ward House for four and a half years. He helped me to grow as a museum professional and was nothing but supportive when I decided I needed to move on and try new things in my career. He was caring and understanding and he helped me grow as a museum professional. He cared deeply about the people he worked with and the museum community. I wish I could be there in person to say good-bye, but even in Chicago he will be remembered.

My thoughts and prayers are with the White family and the McFaddin Ward family. May God Bless Matt as we keep his friends and family in our hearts and prayers.

After joining the family of the Texas Association of Museums, I never met a fellow museum colleague who more kind, clever and inclusive. Speaking for myself and the museum community of Texas, we share in the loss of a very special human being and museum professional.

Matt was as well-liked and well-respected as any museum professional in the state of Texas. He was a true gentleman, very kind and respectful to everyone. He had a keen sense of humor as well as a keen intellect. He generously shared his time and expertise with others in the profession. Matt faced his illness with equanimity and good humor. He never gave the impression that he felt sorry for himself. He set a real example of how to deal with personal hardship with grace. I will miss his leadership, generosity of spirit, and friendship.
