Three short years. We met the Toups only 3 short years ago having moved from New Orleans. We count ourselves as being very lucky to have moved into their neighborhood. We all became instant friends and shared quite a few afternoons talking about his roots in La., his service in WWII, and their travels in their numerous motor homes. When he found out I was a quilter, he would always tease me by saying “yep, these stitches are pretty good”, since he had spent some time hand quilting himself and was very proud of that fact! He loved to come over to check and see what project Gary had going this week! We are going to miss that man! His smile. His generosity. His knowledge. His kindness. God does not make them like Mr. Toups anymore. One more lost from the “greatest generation “. We only had 3 short years. Gary and Peggy Corbello

Mr.Toups was our backyard neighbor for the last 10 years, he amazed us how hard he could work. Age was no deterrent to him, he had mowed the yard the day, before he was found ill. This man loved his family and country like no other. We are thankful and blessed to have known him. Truly one more of the greatest generation we are sadly losing. RIP Mr.Toups we will miss you. Sincerely, The Deslatte Family Brad, Julie & Paul

I've known Mr. Toups since I was a little kid. He first lived next door to us on Pine Lane, then he moved across the street from us several years later. He was always such a nice & pleasant man. He gave me a rather large plant when I was little and my mom planted it in our front flower bed. That plant thrived for years and years. I believe it was called a Century Plant, but I can't remember for sure. When I was about 7 years old, I was riding my big brother's bicycle in the street. I had been told not to ride it at all, but I did anyway. It was much too large for me and I ended up getting my bell-bottom pants leg (it was around 1978 probably) caught in the chain and fell, along with the bike, in the middle of Pine Lane. Mr. Toups happened to be working outside in his yard and ran over and came to my rescue! He worked my bell-bottom out of the chain and helped me up off the street. I went home and never tried riding that bike again. :-) Although I haven't kept in touch with Mr. Toups now that I am grown, I will always have fond memories of him and Mrs. Toups from when I was growing up. I will keep his family in my prayers during this time. Tracie Werner Barrera
