Melanie Rose Halliburton Smith, affectionately known as Baw Baw and MiMi, 73, of Nederland, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022, at Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Melanie was born in Port Arthur, Texas on August 25, 1948 to the late Vernon Aubrey Halliburton and Jewel Elaine (Gill) Halliburton.

Melanie retired from the United States Postal Service after 36 years of service. She was a kind-hearted person, who always put others before herself. Melanie was a dedicated school crossing guard and volunteered for Groves and Nederland Public Library. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Melanie enjoyed arts and crafts and painting. She was an avid reader and loved

roses.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left behind to cherish Melanie’s memory are her son, Stephen Smith of Vidor, TX; grandchildren, Christopher Smith and wife, Genipher; Amanda Smith and Josh Schmuck; great grandchildren, Demi Simon, Olivia Smith, Maddison Smith, Silas Smith, and Maxwell Smith; sister, Iris Halliburton of Houston, TX; brothers, Mark Halliburton and wife, Betty of Lumberton, TX; and Brian Halliburton of Lumberton, TX.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Melanie’s Life to begin at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.
