Melva May Phillips

Mrs. Melva May Phillips Mrs. Melva May Phillips, 91, of Port Arthur died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. She was born on June 30, 1918 in Murray, Kentucky to John W. Miles and Fronie Adams Miles. Melva had lived in Blairsville, Ga. for 12 years before moving to Port Arthur 2 ½ years ago. She had been an office manager for Carrier Corp. in Knoxville, TN. Melva was an accomplished artist and an avid gardener with a lifelong love of flowers. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Coosa United Methodist Cemetery in Blairsville, Ga. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melody Phillips and brother, Joseph Miles. Melva is survived by her daughter, Malinda Hawthorne of Port Arthur, TX., four grandchildren, Alan Hawthorne of Port Arthur, TX., Kevin Hawthorne and wife, Dora of Mt. Vernon, OH., Diane Hawthorne Scardino and husband, Andy of Houston, TX., and Elaine Hawthorne Tippitt and husband, Jerry of Houston, TX., sister-in-law, Lorraine Miles of Midland, TX., niece, Barbara Miles Covington of Midland, TX., nephew, Kevin Miles of Midland, TX., and three great grandsons.
