Melvin James Loncon, 75, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Harbor Hospice Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Melvin was born April 13, 1941 in Port Arthur, Texas to Laodice Loncon and Doris Ledet Loncon. He was a resident of Hemphill and was retired from Fina and was serving as fire chief of Fairmount Fire Department. Melvin proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1964. Survivors include his wife, Jean Loncon of Hemphill; two daughters, Darlene Young and her husband Scott of Fannett, TX, and Regina Simmons of Groves, TX; two sons, Jerry Loncon and his wife Julie of Nederland, Jamie Loncon and his wife Carlee of Groves; sister, Melba Loncon; brother, David Loncon and his wife Jonell of Nederland; special granddaughter; Tori Knepp and her husband Russell of Groves; grandchildren; Brandon, Macie, Shayla, Brody, Jonathon, Leslye, Klara, Conner, and Andy; great-grandchildren; Brant, Braeson, Brynlee, Bayslie, Korre, Kynder and Bentley; his dogs, Tootsie, Chippy, Mia, Noel, Cheetoes, and Buddy. A visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2016 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas. Saturday, May 14, 2016 a visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves with Reverend J. C. Coon officiating.

Was in the same reserve unit as he was 30 years ago. He had me order a rifle for him and when it came time to pay for it next drill he told me he had conveniently changed his mind. Rifle was only a 125 dollars for a old Enfield. I had to eat that rifle for a few months before I could turn it. Typical entitled refinery trash. Good Riddance

So sorry to hear of Melvin's passing. I served with Master Sergeant Loncon for 15 plus years in the 4161st USAR School in Beaumont. Prayers for the family
