Melvin "Bud" Patterson, 89, of Groves passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Cypress Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Arthur, Texas. He was born on January 6, 1925 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Murt B. Patterson and Ruth Clawson Patterson. Melvin had lived in Groves since 1955 and was a member of the VFW in Port Neches and the American Legion in Port Arthur. He had served his country during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. Melvin retired from Kansas City Railroad as a switchman after 38 years of service. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. Melvin is survived by his wife, Betty Patterson of Groves, TX, daughter, Melissa Smith of Groves, TX, son, Leo Patterson and wife, Deborah of LaBelle, TX., sister, Patsy Ivey of Cut and Shoot, TX; brother, Marion Patterson of Elkhart, TX., three grandchildren, Leah Garess and husband, Mike, Steve Smith and wife, Chris, and Randall Patterson and wife, Karin, two great granddaughters, and four great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years Ruth Marie Patterson;four sisters, Lila Jones, Phyllis Grantham, Lula Thomas, and Lois Williams and one brother, Earl Patterson.
