     Mevelyn Skinner Manning, a beloved member of the community, passed away on February 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was born on October 31, 1943, in Nederland, Texas to Evelyn (Clark) Skinner and Virgil Lee Skinner.

     After a successful career spanning 20 years Mevelyn retired from At&T where she worked as a telephone operator. She was known for her dedication and commitment to her job, always providing exceptional service to the callers she interacted with. Mevelyn's hard work and professionalism left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the company.

     Outside of her professional life, Mevelyn devoted herself to her family and community. She was an active member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church where she found solace and strength in her faith. Mevelyn's kindness knew no bounds as she tirelessly served others. In particular, she was a devoted caregiver to her late husband, Gerald Manning.

     Mevelyn had an entrepreneurial spirit and managed multiple rental properties with great business acumen. Her attention to detail and strong work ethic ensured that her properties were well-maintained and provided a comfortable living space for her tenants.

     In her leisure time, Mevelyn found joy in listening to Gospel and Bluegrass music. The soothing melodies brought peace to her soul. She also had a fondness for seafood and relished the flavors of the ocean.

     Mevelyn's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Shawn Manning of Nederland, Texas, and Kristopher Manning of Port Arthur, Texas; daughter-in-law, Wendy Manning of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren, Tori Hoffpauir and husband John of Vidor, Texas; Kiley Hernandez and husband Richard of Nederland, Texas; Moriah Manning, Treston Manning, Kassidi Halford, Jason Manning, Gerald Manning, and Josie Manning. Her great grandchildren, Elise Hoffpauir, Katina Hernandez, Ricardo Hernandez, and Asher Hernandez will forever cherish the memories they shared with their beloved great grandmother. She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry Skinner and wife Paula; Larry Skinner and partner Mary; and Kay Sims and husband Paul. Additionally, Mevelyn leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember the moments shared with their loving aunt.

     Mevelyn is preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn (Clark) Skinner; father, Virgil Lee Skinner; husband, Gerald Manning; sons, Cody Manning and Britt Manning; and brother V.A. Skinner. 

     A gathering of family and friends will take place Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with Mevelyn's homegoing service to being at 11:00 a.m., at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, 10169 Memorial Blvd., Port Arthur, Texas 77640. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Hwy., Groves Texas.

     In celebrating Mevelyn's life, let us remember her kind heart, unwavering faith, and dedication to her family. She touched the lives of many with her selflessness and generosity. Mevelyn's legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she made a positive difference in the lives of so many.
