Obituary
Captain Michael J. Casey was called home on February 6, 2024.
He was born on October 6, 1940, in County Clare, Ireland. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Casey, his wife, Dixie Casey, and his son, Kenneth Davis. His survivors include his son, Greg Davis and wife Patsy, daughter Kay Doucet, son Gary Davis and wife Lisa, and daughter-in-law Jenn. Brothers Sean and wife Valerie, Lawrence and wife Mary, Iggy and wife Bridget, Pat and his wife Jane and his sisters, Sister Maria, Nancy McManus, Vera Reynolds, and Patsy Armstrong. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Michael came to the United States out of high school. Eventually, Uncle Sam called him to be in the US Army for two years. After that, he went to sea and began to study and work his way up until he became a captain. He traveled the world during this time and had lots of tales to tell. He became a Sabine Pilot in 1981 and worked there until 1985. Eventually, he moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi and served as a captain there until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Groves Masonic Lodge #1315.
Mr. Casey was very active with the Bob Hope Schools on the School Board and several committees and then later as the Treasurer serving 17 years in total. He enjoyed working with the students and the teachers. He was also an active member of the Nederland Rotary Club. Mr. Casey was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
A Rosary will follow visitation at 12:30 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland. Officiating will be Reverend John Hughs. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
