Some of my best memories from high school were from getting to sing in the church choir at FUMC Nederland. I sat in the bass section right beside Mike which made the experience even better. Miss Wynnelle was our director, and I still remember some of the looks we would get when we were cracking up or causing other mischief in the back row during choir practice. We didn't get to see each other again after I graduated in 2004 and went off to college, but we thankfully got to keep in touch through the wonders of modern technology. He was a great man who will be missed by many.

Gregg Conway October 7, 2020
Remembering Michael Guidry...I met Michael and Wynelle a number of years ago when I joined the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society and the Beaumont Symphony Chorus. They soon joined First United Methodist Church and we sang together in the Chancel Choir. He and I sang in the bass section and I noticed that he would, more frequently than not, save me a seat next to him. I thought...maybe he liked me? One rehearsal, I thanked him for the seat and asked why he had saved it? He said, "Because I sing better seated next to you Gregg Conway. You help me find my pitch and keep me anchored to the score." That was flattering to me and made me think. Aren't we all better in an ensemble? I think God designed it that way. Two people married...a choir...a military unit...ALL are stronger than the individuals would be on their own. That's EXACTLY the way God designed it. As I said my "see you later" to Michael yesterday...because he isn't gone...I just won't see him for a while...he is still with us as long as we remember...all around us...IN us...I knew he was already singing in the bass section of the choir eternal. My silent request to him was, ......"Save me a seat..."
Willis Boedeker October 7, 2020
Willis C. Boedeker Jr 1104 East Park Ave. Palestine, Texas 75801 6 October 2020 To Mike’s Family, I was informed of his death by James Ownby, and found it hard to believe. This is not supposed to happen to our shipmates. We were not together for very long but those were intense times. Mike, James, and Charlie were a tough act to follow. They came into the squadron together and made a change in the shop right off the bat. Mike was always ready to go do anything we had on the board. Never late, always ready to pitch in and carry his share and more. He was strong in his knowledge of the equipment we were maintaining. And he could contribute mightily to the discussions in the shop while we waited for clearance to return to work on our aircraft. Always a ready smile and a helping hand. He would always be available to stand a watch for someone wanting to go do something during his scheduled tour. It was a busy time in our lives and having someone like Mike around made it easier on those around him. That time in Hong Kong, we were in town roaming around, Mike and Charlie were paired up, James and I out on the island. We turned a corner and there those two were looking at all the buildings. After we got over swapping the stories of our afternoon we decided to find a restaurant for a snack. We found a nice looking place and went in to see how it looked. We were the only table occupied at the time. So, menus in hand, we each ordered our meals. When it all came out of the kitchen, we found that none of us had chosen the same item from the list. And we had a waiter at every corner of the table and the Manager on the side. It was a great day for us enjoying spending our free time together. We were finishing up and getting ready to leave when the Manager asked if we would like to have a picture made. We thought it would be fun and we got photographed as a group. Shipmates on liberty. The good times. We left the squadron and went our separate ways. Just occasionally hearing about the guys and how they were doing. Then came Memphis. Oh boy, the guys together. Sure lost a lot of hair. Grandparents, settled into careers, and sure looking good to each other. I share your loss, Mike was an exemplary person. Please know he was held in high esteem by everyone with whom he came into contact.

Mr. Guidry gave me my first teaching position; supporting and encouraging me the entire time that I worked for him. Not only was he my supervisor; he became a dear friend. That friendship continued even after I moved on to another school district and I found that I could always go to him with questions or for guidance. We were both veterans having a lot in common and I will definitely miss our conversations. His kindness knew no boundaries and I found that out when I told him that I had a prized ship's clock that needed to be wound every 4 days. Who do you think would stop by and wind that clock when I was out of town? It was also Mr. Guidry who guided me through the Teacher's retirement process, making sure that I was given credit for my military time and, for the time that I spent as a police officer in the Texas Employee Retirement System. Thank You Mr. Guidry and there is no doubt in my mind that Heaven's Choir is waiting for your input. Godspeed Sir and may God Bless and Keep your beautiful family in your absence. You will most certainly be missed.

Mr. Guidry was a role model for many of us who grew up in Nederland. I had the privilege of knowing him as an educator, a fellow Methodist, my teacher's, husband and a father to my "run the roads pal." Heck, I even took that old green Volkswagon Bug off his hands as my first car. He knew it would not last long and made me a great deal on it! And it didn't. Wynelle, Meredith and Kim - He was an awesome human and his legacy lives on through all of you, your children and the memories you share of him with one another. May God hold you close today and always.

Just reading his obit, he was an outstanding individual. He made a difference in so many ways, in so many people. And for sure he made a one good decision-he married "up!" Thank you Michael for your time here on Earth. Now wait at the gates of Heaven, & look for all of us to follow.

Dear Wynelle, I send you love and to everyone in your family. You have been a special person in my life and have touch so many people with your beautiful voice. Keep your love ones near you and you will become stronger during your time of grief.

Uncle Mike was a really good uncle and all-around good guy despite many "bald jokes" a tradition handed with his dad , Michael took the jokes a little better good sense of humor and family man strong and firm but soft hearted in school and out of school he was a "whatever the role fit" to many prayers go out to Aunt Wynelle Kym Meredith grandkids and my mom and dad and other family and friends what a glory to be in the presence of Jesus Christ forever in His love God bless Alicia Guidry

Mike was like a brother to me. I don't have enough time nor space to say what Mike really meant to me. He and I grew up together and through out high school and college we were always together, He even talked me into joining the Navy. But the best thing I could say about Mike is that even though I moved to Oklahoma almost twenty years ago I always knew that if I needed anything, I could call Mike and he would be there. That is the kind of friend he was. Jerry Woodall

I knew him for only a short time. Nonetheless, I admired his love of adventure that was evident in his wonderful stories. His adventurous soul was matched by a capacity for love and respect for others that nurtured his relationships with family and friends.

What do you say about someone who opened their home to you for a YEAR AND A HALF while you were displaced from Hurricane Harvey? Well, we tried to express our gratitude through gifts and food, but, really, it was not enough, and there were really no words to convey our gratitude adequately. I can honestly say that few people would have tolerated house guests that stayed...and stayed...and stayed like we had to do. We felt incredibly blessed to have a sanctuary for that dark spell during our lives. Looking back now, we are grateful for those added memories of time together we would not have had otherwise because just three short years later, he was gone. Gone, but still in our hearts where he rightly belongs. He took a piece of our heart with him, and we shall always remember him best for that twinkle he seemed to always have in his eyes. We shall see you again, someday, Michael, and, once again, you will have to share your house with us but, like last time, I know you won't mind.

I will never forget hearing about an Uncle I never new nor my parents. His mom died during child birth. My 98 year old mom and and nieces and nephews born to my brother and sister in law. Through all that we found Michael Guidry and were so excited . the mystery of the brother born during child birthday had been solved. We met with Michael and Wynelle shortly after that in Lafayette. He was an instant love and family that I held dearly. My heart s broken for we were planning another meeting. I am so sorry for the whole family. My 1st cousin is now with my dad in Heaven!! Michael & I grew up in the same town as cousins. Almost every Christmas we visited their home or they visited our home. Many times we dropped by their home, or they dropped by ours on the weekends. We had such great childhood memories. Our Dads were both funny rascals. When they got together there was never a dull moment... only loads of laughter and smiles. Nothing was off limits with those two. Nothing! We also saw each other at larger family reunion type gatherings where the French food flowed. We shared blood. We shared fun. We shared love. Michael & I shared our writing dreams. He was not only my cousin, but my friend. I will miss him so much. But he brought dear sweet,Wynelle, into my life. I will always be grateful to him for the gift of her in my life. My prayers go out for Wynnelle, his girls and to David and his family. I send my love:heart: to you all. Gale
