Michael David Hathaway passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the age of 54.
David was born on September 5, 1966 in Port Arthur, Texas to Larry Hathaway and Carolyn Montana Hathaway.
David attended Port Neches Groves High School and Central Christian School, where he graduated in 1985. Following high school, he attended Liberty University, Lamar University and Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, where he met the love of his life, Jadene Leanne Newbold Hathaway. After a romantic courtship, David and Jadene were married in Oliver Springs, Tennessee on June 22, 1991. Jadene fondly recalls the beautiful letters, poems, drawings and sentimental keepsakes he gave her throughout their engagement.
David and Jadene made their home in Nederland, Texas, where he worked in sales, retail, training, and industrial supply for various Southeast Texas companies for 30 years, most recently, Gulf Coast Screw and Supply in Beaumont, Texas.
David was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas for over 18 years, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and volunteer for Vacation Bible School, AWANAS and various other ministries in which he could share his incredible talents.
David was best known as a gifted artist. As the Designer and Art Director for Hathaway’s Yard Art, his masterfully painted designs have adorned many homes and yards through-out Southeast Texas. His beautiful murals and backdrops for plays, programs and vacation bible school events were a special blessing to Hillcrest Baptist Church. David was an avid Houston Rockets and Astros fan. He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and was truly a big “kid at heart”, enjoying Disney collectables, comics, music, movies, games and days at the beach. More recently, David loved his role as “Popi”, and becoming a proud, adoring grandfather to 3 beautiful grand-daughters.
David will be remembered as a loving and talented husband, father, grandfather and son. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jadene Hathaway of Nederland, daughter, Morgan Leigh-Anne Hathaway Watts and husband Nick, granddaughters; Gracelyn Leigh-Anne Watts, Annaleigh Rayne Watts, Bayleigh Lynn Watts of Groves, son, Ryland Hathaway of Nederland, Mother, Carolyn Hathaway of Nederland, Texas, a large extended family in Texas and Pennsylvania, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Hathaway.
Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3324 Park Drive, Nederland, Texas on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements will be handled through Melancon’s Funeral Home, Nederland, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Food Pantry and Benevolence Fund.
