Mildred Burns Lasyon, 89, of Nederland, Texas, peacefully passed away at her residence on January 14, 2018, surrounded by her family. Mildred was born on April 26, 1928, in Caldwell, Texas to the late James and Addie Burns. Mildred loved to entertain and always had a host of family and friends stop by to drink coffee and catch up on the gossip.
Mildred was a devoted wife to J.V. Lasyon for 64 years until his passing in 2010. She was the mother of Pat Schulz and husband, Lee of Spring, Texas; cherished granny to Ashley Melancon and husband, Travis of Fannett, Texas and Kristina “Tina” Schulz of Spring, Texas; loving Gigi to Colt Melancon and soon to be namesake, Millie Melancon; sister, Hulene Chevalier; brother, Kenneth Wayne Burns and a host of loving nieces and nephews that she loved and cared for very much. She is also survived by her dearly loved dog, Suzie Pickles, Suzie loved and protected her until her final moments.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, John Victor Lasyon; brothers, Oliver Burns, Howard Burns, J.T. Burns, Joe Burns, Carl Burns; sisters, Bessie Johnson and Lola Garner.
Serving as pallbearers are, Ronnie Burns, David Burns, Doug Burns, Victor Joe Burns, Kenneth W. Burns, Eddie Chevalier III., Lee Schulz, Larry Johnson and Travis Melancon. Honorary pallbearers are, Lonnie Burns, Kenneth R. Burns and Colt Melancon.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. The interment will follow Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Yvonne, Jennifer and Penny. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Avenue in Nederland, Texas 77627.
