IN MEMORIAM
Mildred Green Williams, who was 93 years old, departed this life at home in Port Arthur, Texas on August 31, 2023. Mrs. Williams was born on February 16, 1930 in Simmesport, Louisiana to Walter Green, Sr. and Etta Callahan Green. At an early age, her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended elementary and high school at St. Mary’s Academy which was located in the French Quarter at the time. The property is now The Bourbon Orleans. While at St. Mary’s, Mrs. Williams played basketball. She could be heard up until her death talking about her favorite NBA team, the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry. Mrs. Williams attended trainings relating to exercise and aging, etc. at the University of New Orleans and Southern University of New Orleans. She worked briefly in a senior citizens’ center and a nursing home. Most of her life, she was a busy homemaker raising her 4 children (Gail, Chandra, Robert, and Charmaine).
Mrs. Williams and her husband were converts to the Catholic faith. They were baptized at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was member of The Sodality and The Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, Court 52 until Hurricane Katrina.
Mrs. Williams, along with her husband and daughter, moved to Montgomery, Alabama because of Hurricane Katrina. Here is where she lost her husband to cancer. She then went to live in Houston, Texas where her youngest daughter was living. Mrs. Williams spent the last 16 years of her life in Texas. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Her hobbies and interests included photography, gardening, reading, cooking and baking her favorite dishes (gumbo, sweet potato pies, muffins, stuffed peppers; only to name a few, and attending the movies and cultural events.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Callahan; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Green, Sr.; her husband, Mr. Robert Williams, Jr.; two children, Ms. Chandra Williams and Mr. Robert A. Williams, III; her siblings, Mrs. Vivian Green Fortenberry, Mr. Otis “Pete” Green, and Mr. Walter Green, Jr. and her best friend since elementary school, Mrs. Jacquelyn Darensbourg. She leaves to mourn her departure, her daughters Ms. Charmaine E. Williams and Ms. Gail Williams Watson, and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be Friday, October 6, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a Memorial Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m., at Charbonnet Funeral Home Chapel, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119.
