Miles "Mickey" Coleman, Jr.

1927 ∼ 2022

Miles “Mickey” Coleman, Jr., 94, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 in League City, Texas. Mickey was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 18, 1927 to the late, Miles Madison Coleman, Sr. and Willie Mae Slaughter Coleman.

Growing up in different places with his brothers, he was rough and tumble from the beginning. Mickey never met a stranger, and the world never met a man more loving, humble, genuine, generous and selfless. His positive outlook on life was infectious; his personality and sense of humor were one of a kind. He had a great appreciation for the simple joys of life and always had a story to tell. Mickey loved being outdoors; a connoisseur of lawn-care and gardening, he was always on the move and happily working on a project. He was fully dedicated in everything he did, working harder than he expected others to, and taking the best care of his family, who were his greatest source of pride. Throughout his career as a merchant marine, his crew members and colleagues held him in high regard. As a world traveler, he had many unique adventures… he’ll tell you all about them. A wise and kind man, his heart was always at home with his neighbors, friends and family. He and “the wife” loved to socialize, play bridge, go out dancing and listen to good music. They were very involved in square dancing and church committees, and he was proud to help build the parking lot for the family center at 1st United Methodist church, here in Nederland.

Those left to cherish Mickey’s memory include his Sons, Miles M. Coleman, III and his wife, Peggy Jean of Pine Forest, Texas and Stanley Russell Coleman and his wife, Phyliss of League City, Texas; daughter, Cynde Coleman Lomonte of Nederland, Texas; sisters-in-law, Gloria Feldschau and Barbara Coleman and their families; cousin, Viola Perdue and family; grandchildren, Miles IV and his wife, Jennifer, Melinda and her husband, Tony, Cherilyn and her husband, Jason, Cher, Natalie and Matt; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Bailey, Miles V, Landen, Jayden, Aubrey, Kelsey and her husband, Jordan and Taylor and her husband, Tyler; great-great-grandchildren, Levi, Nolan, Cole, Elijah, Anthony and on the way, Rosalie Rae; & his partner in crime, Remington James (miniature schnauzer).

Mickey is preceded in death by his parents, Miles Madison Coleman, Sr. and Willie Mae Slaughter Coleman; his loving wife of 67 years, Loyce Caldwell Coleman; and his brothers, J.C. Monts, Kenneth Coleman and Ernest Larsen.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Miles M. "Mickey" Coleman, Jr.

"Mickey" & Loyce were indeed "Family" to the Hale family, one of which I belong to and had opportunity to enjoy their presence when I visited my brother & Sister-in law, Bill & Evelyn Hale. There was always laughter & joy in their friendship and I'm sure it's continuing. My sincere condolences to MIles, Rusy & Cynde and their many friends grieving their loss. Lela Hale Gardner

Praying for the family as they mourn the loss of one of the greatest patriarchs I have ever known. My parents (Bill & Evelyn Hale) were blessed to have Loyce and Mickey Coleman as close friends for many years. They had the best time when they were together no matter what they were doing. ie. playing games, camping, hunting, shopping, fishing, etc. Because of their strong friendship, we were considered family. I was blessed to get to call them Aunt Loyce and Uncle Mickey. As a result, I got to spend many days and hours playing and growing up with Miles, Rusty, & Cynde. They treated me like a brother. Of all the time I spent around Aunt Loyce and Uncle Mickey while I was growing up, I can never recall seeing them without a smile on their face. They were always happy, full of joy, and showing love to everyone. I give thanks to the Lord for the positive influence this family had on our family. Rest in peace Uncle Mickey? The Coleman legacy is in great hands with Miles, Rusty, & Cynde. God Bless, Wayne Hale
