Minnie Schoppe went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 22, 2012. She died peacefully at home after a brief illness. She was born in Giddings, TX on February 27, 1920 to John Gerhard Kappler and Clara Mathilde (Berger) Kappler. She had been a resident of the Port Arthur-Groves area since 1937. Before her marriage, she worked with her sister Louise Albers and brother-in-law Pete Albers in the motel business. She married John C. Schoppe on July 26, 1941 and became a homemaker. She helped her husband with his lumber yard business. John died June 12, 1987. After his death, she devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her church. She was very active in St. Paul Lutheran church until her death. She loved the Lord, family, friends, and was always very positive, energetic, and willing to help everyone. She also enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, and games with family and friends. Minnie Schoppe is survived by her son, Harry Schoppe of Beaumont, TX and daughter, Sandra Wiedenfeld and husband Walter of Longview, TX; her three grandchildren: Carl Wiedenfeld and wife Lesa of Port Arthur, TX, Mark Wiedenfeld and wife Jane of Lufkin, TX, Susan Huffman and husband Joe of Lufkin, TX, and five great-grandchildren: Travis Wiedenfeld, Jessica Wiedenfeld, Ty Hancock, Peyton Williams, and Madison Huffman. A gathering of Minnie's family and friends will be on December 29, 2012 from 9 11 a.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. that afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Groves. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Nederland, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5801 W. Jefferson, Groves, TX 77619 to their general fund.
