Mitchell Leonard "Bubba" Plaia

1936 ∼ 2015

Mitchell Leonard "Bubba" Plaia, 78, of Port Neches, Texas passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015. He was born April 24, 1936 in Beaumont, Texas to the late Leon Plaia and Francesca Cappadonna Plaia. Bubba was a South Park Graduate. He retired from Texaco Inc. as an Electrical Supervisor with 30 years of service. He was so proud of his grandchildren, attending many ballgames and dance recitals. Bubba also loved the times spent at Ivanhoe with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Leon Plaia and Francesca Cappadonna Plaia, his sister Rosalie Plaia Letterman, and his brother Andrew Plaia. He was known by many names: Daddy, Pop (whether he was their real "grandfather" or not), Uncle Bubba, or Honey. No matter, he loved each and every one. He lived a full life and he touched many lives. He loved his family: his wife Barbara of 53 years celebrating their anniversary on February 3rd, his two daughters, Melanie and Kimberly, his 5 grandchildren Megan, Abby, Cassidy, Mitchell, and Erin; his two "sons" Shaun and Stephen and all their friends that called him "Pop". He loved life too. As a young man, he was rough and rowdy. Living on a farm brought many adventures such as bull riding and rodeos. As a husband, he was smart, strong, handsome, kind, and loving. As a father he was "King Bubba" but ruled with a gentle and loving heart. As a friend he was always there, never faltered, helping anyone that needed him. He was an intelligent man with a high school degree, but he spoke with the eloquence equal to any scholar. Those who knew him know it was a privilege to do so. There are no words to describe the loss and unfortunately he always had the right words. He was our rock and he will be greatly missed! A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches with Reverend Shane Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches.

Barbara and Family, We were so sad to learn of Bubba's passing. He was a good friend. We especially remember his call after Hurricane Rita. "I'm just checking on all my friends," he said. We're sorry we won't be able to attend the services, but will keep all of you in our prayers.

Plaia family, so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Bubba from the late fifties to the early seventies at Texaco. He was a good friend and always there to help. You have my deepest sympathy and prayers during your time of sorrow and loss.

Uncle Bubba... Though time may pass between our visits it was as if it had been the day before when we would visit. He never forgot to ask about the family, the WHOLE family and would call each by name. The smile and warm hug that he would greet you with as well as everything about him will be greatly missed...but never forgotten. All our love,
