Nancy Elaine Dean

1937 ∼ 2022

Nancy Elaine Dean, 85, of Nederland, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur, Texas.

Nancy was born on New Year’s Day in 1937 to Nancy Elizabeth Price and Victor Lloyd Price. Nancy was a 1955 graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and later attended Lamar University. She was a retired clerk from Chevron for 35 plus years and was a member of the Methodist faith. Nancy enjoyed bowling. She was highly competitive and wasn’t afraid to “trash talk” to politely intimidate her opponent. She was an avid reader who loved a good murder mystery. There wasn’t a James Patterson novel that she hadn’t read and figured out the ending after reading 2 pages. She also read her Bible daily until she was no longer able. Without a doubt, she loved to cook for her family. Equally important to her was to support various fundraisers with her baking. She was famous for her buttermilk pies that always earned large amounts from donors. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t sew. She could look at a picture and complete the outfit. Truly amazing.

Her greatest passion was hanging out with her 5 grandchildren, attending their activities, and telling anyone who would listen how wonderful they are. Another love of hers was attending PNG Class of 1955 luncheons organized by her lifelong friend, Doris Webb. She also loved to volunteer to read to kindergarten students; she brought their books to life!

Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Fred A. Dean of Nederland; daughters, Leslie Sanches of Groves, Kelly Barrett and her husband Jason Barrett of Groves, 5 grandchildren, Braden Barrett, Julia Barrett, Carsen Barrett, Landen Barrett, and Hayden Barrett. She also leaves behind her grand-dogs, Jet and Maggie, who loved to watch some of her favorite shows, (Castle, Rizzoli and Iles) from the comfort of her lap. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Nancy Elizabeth Price. She was their only child and the light of their lives.

A “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service will be held to Honor the life of Nancy Elaine Dean at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Cremation services will take place at a later date. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to your favorite charity in honor of Nancy Elaine Dean.

I truly loved Nancy. She was my sister-in-law for over 50 years. I will always remember all the good food that she sent over every Sunday while my mother was alive. She will be missed.
