Nava Louise Porter, 87, of Nederland, Texas joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Nava was born on February 20, 1935 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late James and Martha Forse.
Nava was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and was a member of Faith Baptist Temple in Nederland. She was a very devout Christian woman, a loving mother and grandmother. Nava loved singing in the church choir to old Gospel Hymns. She loved making preserves from her garden and baking pecan pies. Nava enjoyed cooking and gardening. She had a great love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nava is preceded in death by her parents, James Herman Forse and Martha “Mattie” Elizabeth (Chambers) Forse; her husband of sixty-five years, James Chester Porter, Sr., brothers, William A. Forse, Floyd and Lloyd Forse; sister, Marguerite Hillbers; and grandson, Jordan C. Porter.
Those left to cherish Nava’s memory are her children, Dawaina Schrieber and her husband, L.J. of Hemphill, Texas, James “Bubba” Porter, Jr. and his wife, Lori of Nederland, Texas; grandchildren, Daneen Green, David Green and his wife, Shana; Robin Fuller and her husband, Jack; and Evan Porter; great grandchildren, Brooks Green, Tucker Green, Annabel Fuller, Fallon Fuller, Abigail Fuller and Jase C. Porter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a Celebration of Nava’s Life to begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. Ms. Nava’s wishes were to be cremated following her Celebration of Life Service.
