Neely Howard Byrd, Sr., 92, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019. Neely was born September 15, 1926 in Hornbeck, Louisiana to Neely Hunter Byrd and Carrie Augusta Lynch Byrd. He was a resident of the Port Arthur area for 75 years and member of Groves First Baptist Church. Neely retired from Texaco as a powerhouse engineer after 38 years of service. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Justice Byrd; grandson, Timothy Stanley; sister, Lucille Magart; and brother, Lincoln Byrd. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Stanley and husband Joseph of Starks, LA; sons, Neely H. Byrd, Jr. and wife Linda of Lumberton, and Glenn E. Byrd and wife Rynada of Orange; brother, Harold Byrd of Lufkin; grandchildren, Stacy Beard and husband Devon, Andrea Plate and husband Patrick, Syndey Taquino and husband Daniel; great-grandchildren, Colten Beard, Kaylin Stanley, Arabella Plate, Flynn Plate, and Madison Taquino. A visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the funeral home with Dr. Robert Pitre officiating, and assisted by Reverend Dustin Byrd. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted at Oak Bluff Memorial Park on Monday, September 7, 2019 at 12:00 noon under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home.
