Nell E. Tanner Nell E. Tanner, 76, of Port Arthur, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Emerald Hills in North Richland Hills, Texas. She was born on November 19, 1938 in Bonham, Texas to Hubert Lester Thomas and Gladys Tarpley Thomas. Nell had lived in Port Arthur for 54 years and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was retired as a teacher from Port Arthur Independent School District. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2015 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Dr. Phil Sigman of Central Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Tanner, and brothers, Basil Thomas and Billie Joe Thomas. She is survived by her step daughter, Janis Tanner of Dallas, TX, step son, Paul Tanner of Kirkland, WA, nephew, Charles Thomas and wife, Kathy of North Richland Hills, TX, niece, JoAnn Collins and husband, Kevin of Fort Worth, TX, great nieces, McLaine Thomas and Azalea Collins and great nephew Garrett Thomas.

Nell and I met at Lee Elementary in Port Arthur in 1961 as we began our teaching careers. We were both members of the Career Department at Central Baptist Church. In later years our paths crossed again at Langham Elementary in Nederland. My sympathy to the family.
