Nita McGowin

Nita McGowin, affectionately known as “MawMaw Mac”, 86, of Nederland, Texas passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Nita was born May 5, 1936 in Evergreen, Alabama to Jack and Cora Bradley.
Nita was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Nita along with her late husband, Rev. Edward Wilton “Bro. Mac” McGowin ministered at several churches. They ministered at Old Salem Baptist Church in Old Salem, Texas., Burnt Corn Baptist Church in Burnt Corn, Alabama., Apple Springs Baptist Church in Apple Springs, Texas., New Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mauriceville, Texas., Friendship Baptist Church in Silsbee, Texas., Maplecrest Baptist Church in Vidor, Texas., 7th Street Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas and Faith Baptist Temple in Port Neches, Texas.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Jack D. Bradley and Cora (Salter) Bradley; husband, of sixty-one and a half years, Rev. Edward Wilton “Bro. Mac” McGowin; brothers, Wesley Bradley, Tommy Bradley and Bill Bradley; sister, Bernice Jerkins and daughter-in-law, Anita McGowin.
Those left to cherish Nita’s memory are her sons, Edward Wilton "Eddie" McGowin, Jr. of Port Neches, Texas; Harold Wade McGowin and his wife, Kathy of Nederland, Texas and Michael Dean McGowin and his wife, Denise of Nederland, Texas; daughter, Tammy Suzette McNeil and her husband, Russell of Carrollton, Texas; brother, Bobby Bradley and sister, Liz Harrison of Brewton, Alabama; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
The McGowin Family would like to give a special thank you to everybody who were a blessing to them in every way possible. Our father, Edward and our mother, Nita were just two young kids when God brought them in his Kingdom in November of 1956. On November 8, 1956, Bro. Harold Brown led our mom to the Lord at Bro. Manley Beasley's first Revival after he became a full time Evangelist at Calvary Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas. What a blessing from God, Bro. Manley Beasley led our father, Edward to the Lord on November 7, 1956.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Best Hospice Care and all of mom's caregivers for the love and care shown to our mother.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
