Norman Preston Reynolds Sr., 82, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Officiating will be Richard Vaughn. Burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
Norman was born in Tyler, Texas, on January 31, 1941, to Preston James Reynolds and Kathryn Barker-Reynolds. He graduated in 1959, at Port Neches Groves High School where he stood out in football being a really great player and he also received all his district honors there and was in golden gloves boxing and fought for the Texas State Title. After serving in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He went to work for Texas U.S. Chemical in Port Neches. In 1965 he went to work part time as the Chief of Police in Pearidge, Texas, from 1965 through the early 1970’s. Then he went to work at Port Neches Police Department as a Police Patrol Sergeant and from there to the City of Lumberton as the Police Chief/City Manager before retiring in 2008. After his retirement he became the Police Chief for the Port of Beaumont for four more years until he retired again at seventy-one. He was a member of the Port Neches Groves Masonic Lodge #1163.
He was preceded in death by his parents Preston and Kathryn Reynolds.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Gwyn Reynolds of Beaumont, TX; two sons, Norman Reynolds Jr. and wife Becky of Groves, TX; and Larry Reynolds and wife Anne of Port Neches, TX; daughter, Melissa Fischer and husband Chris of Beaumont, TX; two grandchildren, Reid and Mauri Reynolds; brother, Gary Reynolds and wife Pat of Arizona, TX; sister, Kathi Green and husband Brad of Nederland, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
