Norvel was a great friend and classmate at Port Neches-Groves High School - '53-'56. I remember his dry sense of humor and team play on the Indian Football team. When he won the game at Alice, TX with the "hidden ball/guard around" play I was there as a member of the Indian Band. 50 years later Novel graciously gave me a video copy of that game to relive with my grandchildren. Novel loved his Family; was a faithful giving friend. He will be sorely missed! Jesus said ... "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

How saddened I was to read of Norvel's passing. I lived in Nederland, but my friendship with Norvel, and Tommy too, goes back to our high school days. In later years when our paths crossed, he always had a ready smile and handshake. If I remember correctly, the day we were playing Refugio in the quarterfinals, Port Neches was playing Alice, and Norvel's famous "Guard Around" play won the game for PNG. He was a great guy and will be missed. My deepest sympathies go out to the family.
