Omar Lane Fulton Jr.
Omar Lane Fulton Jr., 99 of Groves, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, surrounded by family at Oak Grove Nursing Home.
Omar was born on April 11, 1924, to Omar Lane Fulton Sr. and Ruth Emily Williamson-Fulton, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the second oldest of ten children. He served our country in the United States Army and Merchant Marines. He began his career with Texaco on the east coast and had an office in the Chrysler Building in New York City. He became Marine Superintendent for the Mediterranean Fleet for Texaco. He was stationed in Palermo, Sicily. Once back in the states, Omar was the Marine Superintendent for Texaco in Port Arthur. Once retiring from Texaco, he opened his own steamship agency, Triangle Marine. Omar was a member of the Port Arthur Founders Lions Club and was at one time President. Omar enjoyed golf, travel, furniture-making, old movies and the Astros and Dallas Cowboys. Omar was married to Betty Jo Freeman, August 19, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas. They were married for 70 years and had three daughters.
Omar is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo; two brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by one brother and one sister and his three daughters, Jolane Bedford and husband Reagan of Port Arthur, TX; Faye Fulton of Greenville, SC; and Mary Defee and husband Mike of Mauriceville, TX; five grandchildren, Michael Defee and wife Mallory, Jenny Cassidy and husband Andy, Kate Smith and husband Eric, Brian Bedford and wife Teryn and Anna Stanley and husband Reagan; ten great-grandchildren, Livi, Allie and Maddie Smith, Julia and Lucy Cassidy, Luke Defee, Lane, Elliott and Owen Bedford, and Rhett Stanley.
The family will have a private graveside service.
