I am so sad to read of Otis Barnes death. We were good friends in our youth in Port Neches and corresponded when he served overseas in the army. Always enjoyed seeing him and Mary at our High School Reunions. My condolences to all of his children.

Otie and Mary were one of a kind. Made us feel like family and "home" every time we came to visit. Our hearts are with you Kay and David as you celebrate the life of your sweet daddy. We are grateful for the time we got to spend with him this summer. He never lost his sense of humor and could remember every detail of his amazing life. We love you Otie! Heaven gained an angel. I am sure Mary has some things for you to do when you get there, a "honey-do" list! We love you! Jack and Paula Titus

Otie and Mary Barnes completed the circle of wonderful parents in the Washington, McKinley neighborhood. Always ready to help everyone, make you laugh and love all the kids who grew up there. Kay and David please know my prayers as with you during this time of loss.

What a great man. Otis and my Dad went to Indian football games for forty years. They had season tickets which Kay and David have to continue to the tradition. When we went to games with Otie and Herbert, we always looked for the two shortest guys for the ride home. They always re-played the game afterward. Otis and Mary always had the best Halloween house, even had a line waiting to get there. Mary had a great laugh to match Otie's enjoyment of the situation. In his later years he would show us his stamps cars and his enjoyment of life. We missed Otie this year because of Covid, but we will remember our visits. When I think of Otis a smile crosses my face. Thanks Otis for the memories. Jeff and Sandy Kasper

There are special people in our lives who never leave us. God blessed the Gibson family when we moved across the street from the Barnes. Mr. Otie was more than neighbor to all of us, he was our family. A bonus grandfather to our three children and like a father to me. I will forever be grateful for the love he gave to all of us. I will miss you." In God's arms you can rest" I love you, Max

Mr. Barnes was the sweetest man. Many years ago when I delivered their mail, he kept little snickers in the freezer in the garage, he'd always put a couple in my pocket or sometimes a soda water. He was loved by so many and will be missed dearly! I'm sure Mrs. Mary was there to meet him. Rest In Peace Mr.Barnes!

Otie as we called him was one of the best neighbors we Choate's could have ever had. He and Mary were always there for us kids. I was a little girl when I asked Otie if he would be my boyfriend, he said yes! Mary and I shared the same birth date, he and Mary would take me out to eat with them on our special day. He always had a smile his face and a kind word for everyone. He will be missed but now he is our angel looking down on us. Kay and David you know what y'alls parents meant to us, thanks for sharing them with us. Love ya'll. Donna Kay

All the neighborhood kids loved them. He was the same age as my dad, which also retired from Sabine Towing. Rest in Peace

Otis was our neighbor and our best friend growing up. He was always there for us, with his wife Mary. He was an honorary uncle to our children. He took care of my Mom's yard after my Dad passed...he was always there for Mom when she needed help. He was the keeper of my brother Joe's cats when he went on vacation. He was an all-around Great Man. He and my Dad were both on the Groves Volunteer Fire Department for years. My Dad has been gone since 1997...Otis has now joined his old, best friend in heaven. Otis will be forever missed by a lot of people. He was a very special person.
