Paul "Shelton" DeVillier

Paul “Shelton” DeVillier, affectionately known as “Paw Paw, Pop or Po,”85, of Groves, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his beloved family. Shelton was born on April 12, 1937 in Beaux Bridge, Louisiana to George and Celimaine “Meon” DeVillier.

Shelton was four years old when he moved to Port Arthur, Texas with his family. He attended St. James Elementary School and Bishop Byrne High School, where he met and fell in love with his High School sweetheart, Patricia (Thibodeaux). Shelton retired in 2002 after forty-five years of service as a Machinist for Standard Alloys. Shelton was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception/St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves.

Shelton’s greatest joys in life were his faith, family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had many hobbies that included restoring bicycles, collecting Die cast cars and model airplanes just to name a few. Shelton was a long-time member of the Cajun French Music Association Gulf Coast Chapter and served on the board of directors for multiple terms during his membership. Shelton enjoyed listening to Cajun Music, family gatherings and eating crawfish. Shelton’s smile and sweet persona will be missed by all who knew him.

Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, George and “Meon” DeVillier; his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Patricia Thibodeaux DeVillier; his eldest son, Louis J. DeVillier; daughter-in-law, Patricia DeVillier; and one great grandchild, baby DeVillier.

Those left to cherish Shelton’s memory are his son, Michael DeVillier and his girlfriend, Melanie; sisters, Nettie Guidry, Shelby Fontenot and Vera Gills; and one brother, “Kenny” DeVillier; granddaughters, Jessica Allen and her husband, Mike; Kasie Resweber and her husband, Daniel; grandson, Brandon DeVillier. Shelton also leaves behind a legacy of great grandchildren, Angel, John, Natalye, Azalie, Michelle, Lily, Eli, Leander, Atticus and Wyatt.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2022, at Immaculate Conception/St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves. Rite of Committal will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
