Paul “Moose” Thibodeaux, 81, of Port Neches, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Paul was affectionately known to many of his friends and family as “Moose”. He was born February 5, 1941 in St. Martinville, Louisiana to Alice and Kaleb Thibodeaux.
Moose married Joyce Bonin on February 6, 1959. They were married for fifty-two years before cancer took her life. Moose met and married Charlotte Niles, but they only had four short years together before cancer took her life as well. Moose married Elaine Matthews on July 3, 2017. They had five and half years together before God took him home.
Moose had various jobs in his lifetime after he moved to Texas. He worked for the City of Groves and retired from Great Lakes Carbon as a heavy equipment operator for twenty years. After his retirement, Moose worked as a funeral assistant for Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home and as a security guard.
Moose loved coaching and managing for Minor League Baseball and girls’ softball. He was a former 4TH degree member of the Groves Knights of Columbus Council #3491. Moose was member of First Baptist Church of Nederland and was an active member of his Sunday School class, singing in the Silvertones Senior Adult Choir. He was known for his cooking, especially for the youth. Moose had a love for God, family, music, traveling, cooking, fishing and making people laugh with his countless Boudreaux/Thibodeaux jokes. Moose was also known for his humor and outgoing personality.
Moose is preceded in death by his parents, Kaleb Thibodeaux and Alice (Bijeaux) Thibodeaux; daughter, Cathy Thibodeaux; wife of fifty-two years, Mary Joyce (Bonin) Thibodeaux; wife of four years, Charlotte Niles Thibodeaux; sister, Eula Thibodeaux Hebert; brother, Wilmer “Black” Thibodeaux; brother-in-law, Vincent “Boy” Landry.
Those left behind to cherish Moose’s memory are his wife, Elaine (Matthews) Thibodeaux; sons, Randy Thibodeaux and his wife, Lori of Groves, Texas; Ernest Thibodeaux and his wife, Belinda of California; Scotty Thibodeaux and his wife, Stefanie of Vidor, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Cecile Landry of Groves, Texas. Moose is also survived by Elaine’s children, Jill, King, Julia and Jackie and their families who adored him and brother-in-law, Jerry Pace and his wife, Barbara to which he was very close.
Serving as pallbearers include Randy Thibodeaux, Ernest Thibodeaux, Scotty Thibodeaux, Van Belaire, Wayne Belaire and Stephen Jara; honorary pallbearers include Art Belaire, Mike Pedigo and Sam Maggio.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. A second visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with a Celebration of Moose’s Life to begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Nederland; 1911 Nederland Ave., Nederland, Texas 77627.
