Peggy J. Golden

1932 ∼ 2025

Peggy J. Golden, a cherished homemaker and beloved matriarch, was born on March 29, 1932, in Logansport, Louisiana. She entered eternal peace on May 22, 2025, in Port Arthur, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family and friends.

For 73 wonderful years, Peggy was the devoted wife of Sonny Golden. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and shared memories, having first met in the seventh grade. Their enduring partnership became a testament to true love, an inspiration to all who knew them.

Peggy's life was enriched by her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She delighted in bargain shopping for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in selecting thoughtful gifts that reflected her love for them. Her radiant spirit was often seen as she spent time coloring and playing games, creating precious moments with her grandchildren Blake Trahan and Lauren Trahan; and Shelby Hebert. The warmth and affection she shared extended further to her great-grandchildren, Jayde Solomon, Chandler Brewer, Addison Trahan, Rylee Brewer, Nash Solomon, and Krew Solomon, all of whom will miss her dearly.

An active member of the First Baptist Church of Port Neches, Peggy contributed her talents as a seamstress for the church's Christmas pageants, leaving an indelible mark on her community. She also enjoyed playing golf and tennis, embracing life with enthusiasm and a zest for recreation.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Sonny Golden, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who remain a testament to her nurturing spirit. She is fondly remembered by her brother, Donald Jones, and his wife, Gail, as well as her son-in-law, Craig Hebert. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, whose lives she touched with her kindness and compassion, will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lola Jones, and her beloved daughter, Rene' Hebert and granddaughter Mauri Trahan.

A visitation in honor of Peggy will be held on May 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 2001 Nall St, Port Neches, TX 77651. A graveside service will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

As we gather to celebrate her life and the countless ways she enriched ours, we remember Peggy J. Golden, a woman of strength, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of those she leaves behind.

I remember the first time I met Mrs. Peggy or Mawmaw, as we were instantly told to call her. She wasn’t family by blood, but you’d never know it by the way she welcomed us into her world like we’d always belonged there. She had a way of making everyone feel so special, but especially my kids. You see mawmaw never missed a beat when it came to the kids and their sporting events. If she couldn’t make them in person, she was watching them on her phone when she could—and at the end of the day you could always count on a phone call asking how they went! No matter the outcome, Mawmaw always had something positive to say at the end of the phone call! When it came time for birthdays and holidays, you could always count on her to send you a special card in the mail with a simple reminder of how much she loved you and wished you the best! Each person in our family had something to look forward to every time a special day was coming up! Every week or few weeks we could always count on a phone call from Mawmaw simply checking in to see how everyone in the family was doing! She would go down the list—Jayde, Nash , Krew, myself (Amber), Brett and Peggy (my mom). She would ask how each person was doing, ask if we needed anything, and say “tell everyone we love them”. Like I said we weren’t family by blood, but you would never know that by the way she treated all of us the same! Mawmaw you were truly one of a kind, thank you for welcoming my family into your life and showing us what true love really means! We will miss you greatly! —Amber & Family

I never wanted this to happen any time soon, but God and every other loved one in heaven needed her more. Mawmaw has been my bestfriend ever since I was born. She loved when I would come over and have sleepovers with her, or even the little things like letting her brush my hair or helping her clean the house. She would always call me or text me asking how I am and even send me letters in the mail telling me Happy Easter, Merry Christmas , or wishing me a Happy Birthday. She also always made sure I had good grades and would even watch my softball games on her phone everytime that she could. Mawmaw was my biggest supporter and biggest fan. Now I’m sure everyone saw mawmaw as the sweet innocent older lady but she wasn’t’ just the sweet innocent older lady. Mawmaw had sass. And when I say sass I mean she was SASSY. Mawmaw had texted me one time saying “U like big lounging pants don’t you?” I said “what do you mean by that” she then said “it isn’t a hard question.” I was too scared to say something else because I didn’t wanna get whooped by her and so I just said “that’s fine.” she then proceeded to be sassy again and just responded with a flat out “k.” So no, she wasn’t just the sweet innocent old lady that yall all thought she was. She also loved taking me shopping at good ole JCpennies. Keep in mind, me and her have completely different styles so she would ALWAYS get mad at me when I told her no as she’s showing me clothes that she wanted me to wear. Mawmaw always found a way to make me laugh or smile when I was sad. When I was younger, she would always read me bed time stories and wake me up to donuts at 7 in the morning. She was a very early bird, no matter if it was on the weekends or the weekdays. She was up at least every day from 7am-8:30 at night. Mawmaw, our memories will forever be cherished, and there won’t be a single day where I don’t think about you. You’ll forever be my bestfriend and the best Great Grandma in this whole world. Kiss Honey, Jesus, and all the other loved ones up there for me. We love you so much Mawmaw. —Jayde (great granddaughter)
Kyle Brewer May 24, 2025
I am Kyle Brewer. I'm the father of her great grand children Rylee and Chandler. Peggy was a very put together person. She always had her makeup done and hair done and the beauty shop once a week. She loved her great grandchildren like they were her own children. She loved spending time with them and would play for hours with them on the floor. Peggy also loved to shop and buy clothes for them. She was always looking out for a sale and had her coupons ready. For every holiday and birthday, she always sent a card in the mail to your house. The cards were always funny and told you how much she loved you. I was not blood related but she treated me like I was her son. Any time you went to her house she would show you her picture > Mantle of all her grand kids and great grandchildren. Her house was so clean and everything had its place. She will be loved and missed.
