I met Peggy many years ago she was a lovely lady and so funny. I was so happy to hear she knew Jesus Christ as her Saviour. That comforts my heart because I know I will see her again. My prayers and thoughts to Mike and family. I Corinthians 15:1-4 TRISH Wood

I am so upset with myself that I missed my funny sweet friends funeral! I loved her so much! I came to know Peggy really good in Indianettes, we were next to each other because we were so short. After graduation we stayed in touch and did some things together. I hooked up with Peggy again in Canyon Lake at Sue’s home, every Fourth of July, couldn’t wait to see her so I could laugh my head off. One thing I will always cherish, just out of the blue she text me a couple of months ago just to tell me she loved me. My heart goes out to ALL of her family, I know she will greatly be missed, there was no one like her! Donna Droddy Falcon

Peggy, you will always be in my heart and mind. I loved you like a sister. You will be greatly missed here on Earth, but I will see you in Heaven. I am so happy you and Mike teamed up so many years ago, your love for each other was always evident. You also made a great Comedy Team, should have had a Television Show. My heart felt grief and condolences go out to all who knew and loved you. How you put up with the gang of us that hung out around Mike and your house I will never know, but I am quite sure you never had a Classroom full of kids that could be more unruly than us. I will miss you greatly, Sweet Lady. Mike, my Brother, I will always be here for you and your family - as long as I am able. Love to all, Leonard Wood

I can tell everyone how much fun we had growing up as cousins in Port Neches. Of course, Peggy was one of our most fun cousins. She was into everything. Those were great days. After reading a lot of these posts, I have to tell you how fortunate I have been to be in a family of so many wonderful teachers. My wife, my sister, my kids, my relatives and Peggy and her sisters have all been a part of this great profession. I have personally been told so many times by people on the street, in the stores, and at the games what a wonderful teacher my wife was and what a difference she made in their life. Reading these posts I see the same magnificent things being said about Peggy. As relatives and friends we knew what a great person she was. But to hear from so many of her former students what “a difference she made in their lives”! That’s powerful stuff and that was Peggy! May she Rest In Peace in Heaven with our Lord. - Aaron “Butch” McBride

To the family of our dear Peggy, especially to my brother in Christ, Mike: As we celebrate the life of sweet Peggy, let us all be reminded of God's great love for each of us and His Presence as we remember the life of this wonderful lady. May you all have peace and consolation in your hearts, knowing that Peggy is resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has attained the prize which we all seek. May God grant you strength and courage in the days and weeks ahead. And may the soul of Peggy and all the faithful departed rest in peace. Lord Jesus, we ask that you console all of us who grieve after the loss Peggy. Bring us the comfort we seek. Help us to remember all of your promises. We pray that you will give all of those who mourn for this loved one peace. We believe that you are the resurrection and the life. Through you, we will find everlasting life. Amen. My love and prayers for all Peggy's beautiful family, Mike McKee

The world lost a beautiful lady this week. Peggy was a loving mother, sister, daughter, and wife. After reading all of the tributes from mothers of her students and from former students left no doubt that she was an outstanding and loving teacher. She will be missed by many, but we all are better off knowing her for even a short period of time. Rest In Peace, Peggy. Your Cousin, Pat McBride Sierra

There will never be another Peggy Guidry Swafford! One of a kind. God did some of His best work the day He formed her! What a funny lady-always. We were in Indianettes together so long ago, but I will never forget how hilarious she was when we had practice for the Friday night games. I am surprised Mr. Long, the band director didn't banish us from the field. I found it pretty hard to memorize the routines, because Peggy was constantly crackin one joke after another. She always had a smile on her face, regardless of her circumstances. It is evident by all the heartfelt comments from students, fellow teachers, family, and friends how much she was loved. It is also very evident what an impact she had on so many lives. I can only hope to leave a legacy like that. May the Holy Spirit hold her family gently in the palms of His hands, until it doesn't hurt to remember. I am happy she is not suffering anymore, and pray for peace for her family, and all that mourn her passing. See ya later, Peggy. I love you. Rachel Carriere Walker

God knew what He was doing when He made Mrs. Swafford my first grade teacher. She celebrated my strengths and helped me face my challenges. She always had an upbeat, energetic personality and made learning so much fun! I met some of my most cherished childhood friends in her class, and every time I hear “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” I think of Mrs. Swafford and my 88-89 first grade class. I also remember her dressing up as Laura Ingalls Wilder for Halloween. She had the braids and everything! I was fortunate to get to see her and visit with her over the years as I grew up, when I worked at Sonic and even as an adult. The older I’ve gotten, the more thankful and appreciative I am toward her for always believing in me and seeing the potential in the girl who liked to daydream. Teachers and humans like her make the world a better place. Thank you for everything Mrs. Swafford. My thoughts and prayers are with all who cherished her.

Peggy was my Brent’s 1st grade teacher, the first year she taught! One of the things Brent came home from school to tell was “Mrs Swafford was teaching us Math and got on top of her desk and said this is going to be a “blue light special”. She was an amazing teacher! After Brent passed away every time I saw her she would talk about Brent and cry... I loved her for her tender heart.... my prayers tonight for her family that she loved so much. Debbie Miller

Peggy and I have been family for the past 50 years. She’s my precious sister-in-law. It’s very hard to find the words to describe what she meant to me. She’s the one in our family that always brought laughter with the Sweetest Spirit! When there were sad times she’d be there to cheer everyone up. She was so private about her cancer but when we both were diagnosed she was our cancer cheerleader cheering us on and saying tomorrow will be better and how the nausea meds will help etc. When we didn’t know where to go in the huge maze of MDA she was there to guide us. When we stressed over appointments and times she told us how to make them work for our schedule. She helped us in our happy times and in sick times. She helped us with find a doctor for our granddaughter that has Irlen syndrome that absolutely changed her life. She loved each one of us! She was such a champion fighter against cancer. She was caring, compassionate, loving person. She loved all of her little students. She was I’m sure hurting and you’d never know. She always asked how we were never complaining or talking about what pain or struggles she was having. She always made a JOKE about her buddy on her side or running when she had to go. Y’all know what I’m talking about. The everyday texts or late night talks I will miss so much! Johnny called her Junebug! Her leaving Way to soon just doesn’t seem real! She wanted to live to be here for her kids and grands! We wanted her to be cancer free and I know SO many for years prayed it would be that way but God had other plans. I’ve never seen SO many people respond in prayer support and love for anyone like they have our Peggy! I know she loved us all family and friends. God called her home and we will see her again. We love Love love you all! Please continue to pray for her and family.

Peggy Guidry was one of my students at PNJHS. We loved each other, and she told me many times that I was the reason she became a teacher. Her personality was infectious because of her joy in everyday life. I truly loved Peggy, and I know she loved me. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her received a blessing each time we saw her. I pray for peace and love to surround Peggy's family because that would be her wish for you. Mary Ann Carrier

I was in Mrs. Swafford's class as a child. I still remember her clearly. She was one of the most impactful teachers in my life, and I am now earning my doctoral degree in English. I actually think that would surprise her because she was convinced that I was going to be an actress. I would make her laugh by dramatically reciting a particular line from Steel Magnolias. And, though I can't fulfill my promise to acknowledge her during an Oscars speech, I can say that she inspired me to further my education. She was one of the kindest and most wonderful people I ever met.

I’m so glad I knew Peggy! What a life of significance she had! My son was in her first grade class over 20 years ago, and I still have so many fond memories of her dedication, sweet spirit ... and humor. Many adults today will always remember how she loved them well as children. I’m praying the Lord will fill Peggy’s family with hope, help, love, and comfort during these dark days. Brenda Farris

She was the best teacher I ever had. She was so funny, kind, and thoughtful. I always was so shy and awkward and felt uncomfortable around a lot of people growing up. I felt like I could be myself in her classroom because of her. I’m so heartbroken and I’ll be praying for the other friends and family as well. She will truly be missed.

Peggy was my mentor teacher when I did my student teaching at Woodcrest. She was so amazing! I will treasure learning from her. I pray I’m half the teacher she was.

Peggy was our friend, colleague, and teacher of my #3 child. She was always smiling every time I saw her. She told the parents at Meet the Teacher that she loved teaching and it showed. She was a true example of how to be a great person. Our love and prayers are going to her sweet family.

First Grade teachers are special to many of us, but very few are capable of leaving lasting impressions on their students, year after year, like Mrs. Swafford. Mrs. Swafford was my First Grade teacher at Ridgewood, and I still have so many vivid memories from her class now, almost 30 years later and thousands of miles away from Port Neches. She read the book "Stone Soup" to us and made a huge pot of soup for our class -- with a big stone in it! She read "Green Eggs and Ham" to us and made us all green-colored eggs. She asked us to draw a picture of what we wanted to be when we grew up, and then hung everyone's artwork from the ceiling above her desk in the classroom. She was so thoughtful and caring, and all of us knew she was our biggest cheerleader -- just a truly special individual. I'm so grateful for the lasting impression she has had on me, and I know there are thousands who feel the same way. Thank you, Mrs. Swafford, for all the warmth and love you brought to me and to so many...we are better for having you in our lives.

I was just talking about Mrs. Swafford last weekend. I was going through a box of my childhood school work that my parents had given back to me. I found several notes she had written me, and they brought me to tears. My favorite quote by Maya Angelou, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel” reminds me so much of her. I don’t remember everything she said or did from when I was in 1st grade, but I will always remember feeling loved and special when I was around her. I think she made everyone feel that way. She was a major part of why I became a teacher. I was so blessed to have been her student.
