Ray Garland Godbold went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2012. He was 90 years old. He was a wonderful father and loving husband to his wife of 71 years. He was born on February 27, 1921 in McComb, Mississippi, to Charles and Mamie Godbold, one of 8 children. In 1940, he married the love of his life, Louise Brewer Godbold. Shortly afterwards he joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific as a seabee during World War II. They had two children, Jeanie Louise and Loyd Ray. Ray is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and three sisters. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Louise Godbold of Port Arthur; daughter, Jeanie Goodwin and husband Bill of New Braunfels, TX; son, Loyd Godbold and wife Stella of Tomball, TX; six grandchildren, Scott Goodwin, wife Heather, Jason Goodwin, wife Bobbie, Todd Goodwin, Hillary Godbold, Lee Godbold and Dana Baird, husband Nick; five great grandchildren, Katelyn Goodwin, Skyler Goodwin, Nathaniel Goodwin, Amelia Goodwin, and Sadie Godbold; numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives, and a multitude of friends. Ray was a very loving, generous man who always put others first. He loved his family. He was an avid reader, gardener, lover of all sports and bass fisherman. He also enjoyed playing 84 with his friends. He has always been active in his church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, usher, and working with the youth. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, TX. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at Reeves Cemetery in McComb, Mississippi.
