Raymond Joseph Guillory

1936 ∼ 2025

Raymond Joseph Guillory

Raymond Joseph Guillory, of Groves, was born on January 17, 1936, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Clarence (Lefty) and Lillian Sarver Guillory.

He passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 89. Ray was a 1954 graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. He began his career as a butcher's apprentice at Packing House Market in Port Arthur, TX, and later retired from Kroger after 25 years of dedicated service. Ray had a passion for barbecuing and feeding people, which led him to own and operate two BBQ restaurants—one in Tomball, TX called the “Butcher Chop”, and another in Poplarville, MS called “Bubba’s BBQ”.

Ray loved to travel and explore the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Darlene Guillory; his son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Hope Geisendorff; granddaughters, Kailey and Kelby Geisendorff; grandson, Seth Koppie; and great-grandchildren, Khloe Koppie and Kaiser Chatagnier. Also, his niece Melinda (Camerera) Tomasello, her husband Jude and his great nephew Michael and great niece Jaclyn.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joycelyn (Lyn) Guillory Breaux.

As per his request, there will not be any public services.

"Ray's warm heart and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

Harold called him Goober so that’s the name we knew him by since he and Harold worked at Groves Packing house market. I went in the store and Harold asked Goober who I was and he told him my name, then Harold said Im going to marry her one day. And he did. We saw Goober through the years and the last time he and Darlene came over along with some of their friends playing music and grilling. Goober had that lttle tee hee laugh as always . Im happy he married Darlene. They were a good match from heaven. Harold passed and we lost contact as I moved to Tennessee, but lately Goober was on my mind so I asked Gene Bourgeois if he had heard anything . Gene sent this obituary and my children and I are so sorry to hear this. Darlene and family will be in our thoughts snd prayers.

Ray was a good friend over the years, always with a story good or bad. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He now rests in the arms and grace of God.

Ray was part of a group of young guys in the 50's that hung around the Crown Drive Inn on 9th Ave in the days of our uninhibited carefree youth. We later scatted around the state like a flock of spooked Bob White Quails. I last saw Ray at the Brownville Kroger's Store when I moved to Brownsville in 1973. Many Saturday afternoons were spent at his parents house where he would back yard barbecue and watch TV Pro football. Ray was a fun guy to be around and will be remembered by many and missed by many more. Condolences to his family. R.I.P "Goober" till we all met on the that other side.
