Raymond Joseph Lopez, a beloved member of the Groves community, passed away peacefully in his home on June 6th, 2024. Ray, as he was affectionately known, was 89 years old. He was born on July 9, 1934, in Erath, Louisiana to his loving parents, Willie and Nola Lopez.
Ray's life was dedicated to hard work and helping others. He started by taking on odd jobs to support his family before venturing into the professional world as an appliance technician at Gem Appliance Company. After thirteen years with the company, Ray decided to pursue his entrepreneurial spirit by establishing his own business, Ray's Appliance Service, in 1967. Alongside his devoted wife Edie Ann Lopez, they successfully ran the business for fifty-three years before retiring.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ray also served in the Army Reserve and National Guard of Texas, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country.
Beyond work and service, Ray had a variety of passions that brought him joy. Carpentry, bowling, gambling, and tending to his yard were among his favorite hobbies. He found immense happiness in creating things for his family and friends and cherished the roles of being a father and grandpa.
Ray is survived by his dedicated wife of sixty-five years, Edie Lopez; son Eddie Ray Lopez and daughter-in-law Tammy; daughter Raelene Leger; brothers David Lopez and William Lopez and sisters-in-law Barbara and Melissa; granddaughters Kelsey Leger and her fiancé Austin Thomas, Haley Langley, Rheagan Baxter and her husband Dyllan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other loved ones.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Nola Lopez; sister Linda Lopez Barker; and brother Jerry Lopez.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Raymond Joseph Lopez will be held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves on June 11th, 2024. A visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 PM.
Ray will be remembered for his hard work ethic, dedication to family and friends, and the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing he was cherished by many.
